About Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Udupi 

Established in the year 2010 under the auspices of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust®, Udupi, Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM) has emerged as ‘A Promising Institution with a Distinction’. It is located in a picturesque village called Vishwothama Nagar in Bantakal, near the world famous temple town, Udupi.
The institute campus is on the Katapady – Belman road, about 6 km off NH 66, 12 km away from Udupi town and well connected to Kundapura, Karkala and Mangalore by road. H. H. Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt, Udupi and the President of the Trust, at a very young age, has promoted SMVITM to provide quality higher education to the needy student community at affordable costs.
Started with only 60 in-take in four engineering disciplines, today SMVITM offers undergraduate courses leading to Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering with a total student in-take of 441 per year. The institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and recognized by the Government of Karnataka. With its well qualified and motivated faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure and distinguished learning-centric facilities, SMVITM has already built its reputation in the field of technical education.
Though the institution is very young, its accomplishments are commendable. Having admired the vision and value addition to engineering education at the institute, the Former President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam made a visit to SMVITM campus on 02 April 2014 and interacted with the students on the topic “Empowering the Nation through Technology and Innovation”.
The renowned multi national company, SAP Labs Pvt. Ltd. has recognized SMVITM as its academic partner. IT Facility Agreement with premier IT company, TCS; research work and execution of externally funded projects in basic sciences; proposed establishment of an R&D Centre in Mechanical Engg.; Modern Testing & Consultancy Cell in Civil Engg.; Conduct of national level conferences and ISTE sponsored faculty development programs; KSCST & VGST (TRIP) sponsored student project works; Innovation Lab.
In the Electronics& Communication Engineering Department; representation of the college in international forums by the faculty; outstanding performance in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities by the students etc. are some of the major achievements SMVITM has  been able to make in the short span of time since its inception.
The institute library has a treasure trove of books, newspapers, magazines, journals and e-journals as well as multimedia laboratory and e-learning centers. All laboratories and workshops are equipped with the most modern and sophisticated instruments, machinery and equipment, fulfilling the quest for practical knowledge of the students. College Bus facility to daily commuters, ergonomically built separate hostels for boys and girls with all modern facilities along with a nutritious vegetarian canteen, are also available for the students.

Admission Details of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Udupi 

BE Admissions : Admission to SMVTIM will be done in accordance with the rules and regulations enforced by Govt. of Karnataka from time to time. Aspiring students shall take up Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) and get admitted through CET Counseling process. A few management seats are also available in the institution.
There is also a provision for successful Diploma / B. Sc students to get admitted to second year of Engineering through Lateral Admission. They are required to follow the CET/KEA norms for such admissions. Allotment of Management quota seats is subjected to satisfying the eligibility criteria prescribed by Govt. of Karnataka that may change from time to time.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission to first year of Four year Engineering Courses:
The candidate should have passed in 2nd  PUC / 12th Std. with English as one of the languages and obtained a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Electronics / Computer.  (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B category candidates).
Eligibility Criteria for Admission to second year (Lateral Entry) of Four year Engineering Courses:
The candidate should have passed three year Diploma examination from an AICTE approved institution with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B category candidates). Or 
Passed B. Sc Degree from a UGC recognized University with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B category candidates) and passed 12th Std. with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

Faculty and Staff: The institute has well qualified and motivated faculty and staff, satisfying the AICTE requirements. Along with effective class room teaching, they try to educate the students towards good social behavior, their responsibility and need to be considerate for other’s feelings. They try to improve student-faculty relation by taking remedial actions to academic grievances of the students and cherishing them by cordial counseling. All efforts are made to identify & nurture hidden talents of students.
Adjunct Faculty (Visiting Professor) Scheme: For valued support & involvement in supplementary teaching/research activities, setting up of laboratory facilities in the departments, conduction of continuing education programs and cooperation in other academic matters/faculty mentoring; a few highly qualified and experienced subject experts from other reputed organizations are appointed as Adjunct Faculty at SMVITM.

State-of-the-art laboratories : All laboratories and workshops are equipped with modern instruments/machineries satisfying the university requirements and the quest for practical knowledge of the students. Adequate computing/printing facilities with campus wide LAN and licensed software packages are made available in all departments.
Central Library with reading halls, book bank facility and multimedia lab : The central library has over 8800 volumes of reference/text books with over 1500 titles. Also the library subscribes 42 national journals, 21 international journals and three e-journals of high repute (IEEE, J-Gate and ASTM digital library), in addition to leading dailies and magazines. Reading Hall of over 150 seating capacity, multimedia laboratory and e-learning centre providing live transmission of VTU EDUSAT programme, are added features. Book Bank facility is also available for the needy students.
Free Internet facility : The institution provides high speed internet facility through Wi-Fi technology to its students for academic purposes. A dedicated Internet Browsing Centre for the benefit of all department students is being developed.
Hostels : Institution has separate in-campus hostels for both boys and girls. All rooms in these hostels are provided with all basic amenities/modern facilities for comfortable boarding. Centralised recreation facilities and a vegetarian mess are also provided. Mess Committee concept with student representation is also introduced.
